The history of rudiments in the drumming community goes back to the early 1800's. This little article is about the recordings that were made to document the rudiments.

The earliest known recordings were done by Charles Bassett and Walter LaRew Timpanist with the San Francisco Orchestra. These were prior to 1940. In 1940 WFL produced and issued a 78 record with the thirteen rudiments,. but they were fragile and did not allow enough recording time. This complete history can be read on the back of a later recording. This record was made after 1951.
